Val D'Aran

The Biosphere Certified label is awarded after verifying that sustainable practices are being implemented correctly. This is a guarantee that the organisation is complying with the commitments it has made.

During 2012, the Conselh Generau d'Aran publicly approved the Strategic Tourism Plan of the Val d'Aran, which includes the sustainability of the destination as a guarantee of added value for visitors and competitiveness for the tourism industry. For this reason it was decided to implement a Responsible Tourism System. The Val d'Aran was the first mountain destination to receive the Biosphere accreditation in January 2014. With this certification, the environment, as one of the great heritages of the territory, as well as the local cultural heritage preserved over the centuries, is put in value.

As a result of this effort, the Val d'Aran has also been recognized as a finalist in the National Geographic Legacy Awards in 2015, in Destination leadership, a category that rewards those leading destinations that demonstrate best practices in the protection of nature and culture.
